Principals For 3d model generation

The generation of as-built (or more correctly as-is) 3D models, is achieved by identifying specific elements in the point cloud and building 3D elements around those specific points. Understanding that the points lay on the surface of an element allows modelers to accurately position “specification generated” 3D CAD elements to their true position and orientation. As multiple elements are positioned and connected, the result is a highly detailed and complete model of equipment, process unit or an entire facility.

The following images show the basic sequence of model production and examples of complex and detailed 3D models.
